Rhetorical Subjectivity

The pictorial portrait of the subject as subjective self-portrait of the contemporary artist.

This project is composed of four painterly portraits where individuals are represented with physical and psychological characteristics that are not found within the preset proprieties and those which who, for various reasons, we find similarities or empathise with them. In this way, we use the pictorial portrait of the subject as a form of subjective self-portrait. To this end, we start a research concerning the evolution of portraiture as a genre, and possible variations in the position of artist and model in the work itself. In order to understand the issue and interpret it in the best way possible, according to the named before, an approach to the terms "social and individual identity" of the human being proposed by the theoretical Clément Rosset in his book Lejos de mi. Estudio sobre la identidad. The resulting works could be understood in turn as a psychological portrait of the chosen subject and a subjective self-portrait of the artist, bringing within a single pictorial whole, the idea of social self as a product of the environment.
